Charles Manson Follower Who Killed Sharon Tate Denied Release

Wednesday, 16 July 2008

One of the followers of Charles Manson who stabbed pregnant actress Sharon Tate to death August 9, 1969, but is dying from brain cancer was denied "compassionate" release Tuesday.  You can read the news article about it by the Associated Press.

I was only five years old when the murder of Sharon Tate (who was 8 1/2 months pregnant) and four others occurred.  However, I always felt like I grew up knowing/hearing about the "Manson Murders."

The trial went on in the early 70s resulting in the conviction of Charles Manson and his four followers, including Susan Atkins.  Atkins, the actual murderer of Sharon Tate, reportedly has only three months to live.

The case made headline news in the early 80s with one of Manson's followers gathering a petition for her parole.  And in 1993 there was concern by the Tate family over a song written by Charles Manson on the Guns N' Roses album "The Spaghetti Incident?'   Of course, every time there up for parole it is in the news.

I think most adults know at least a little about this case but I found an interesting read that details what happened that fateful night at FindADeath.com.

I'm not sure if people would think the "unanimous" decision to deny Atkins parole is lacking in compassion or not, but I do know that in the murder and subsequent behavior afterwards, Atkins showed no compassion at all for Sharon Tate and her unborn baby.

Do you have an opinion on this matter?  We would love to hear it!  Hope to hear from you.

Keep him locked up! That's my vote.
I'm somewhat familiar with this case, but in my area the big serial killer was Charlie Starkweather. I've read the book on his mass killings. On another note, this morning I was watching the news and saw Scott Peterson has a pretty popular blog from prison.

I wholeheartedly agree! I heard about Scott Peterson's blog but refuse to read it. I wouldn't give that man my time or attention!
