Elly Mae Clampett Barbie Doll - How did I miss this?

Friday, 30 December 2011
Pin It

I'm a mom to a boy. I guess that explains it. How else could I have missed that there was an Elly Mae Clampett Barbie doll. Me. Barbie loving extraordinaire. I LOVED Barbie as a young girl. I even collected Barbie as an adult. My parents have a huge box of Barbies to attest to this.

Well, it seems that Donna Douglas, the critter lovin' actress, Elly Mae Clampett wasn't so happy about it. The doll was released in late 2010 without the actresses permission. Today a settlement was reached between CBS and Mattel, and Ms. Douglas

I still like to watch "The Beverly Hillbillies", it brings back fond memories, and still makes me laugh. I don't think my son has ever watched it though. I will be rectifying that soon.

I still can't believe I missed this Barbie doll, though.

I wonder why she didn't want her likeness on a Barbie. I would be flattered!

Oh my gosh that is hysterical. I never realized barbie needed the actress who played the character's permission. That's interesting.

I've never seen the show but I'm surprised the actress sued over it. It's not like it had HER name on it- just the character, which SHE didn't create {I assume}... ah well. Either way I love special Barbies like that. If I had more room in my house I'd collect them. Smile

That's so interesting, because I guess I wouldn't have thought she'd own rights to the character she played. I would have thought the show or production company would have.
